Note #1 The biggest threat to democracy isn't Donald Trump. It’s the people who voted for him. The people who believe fact is fiction, and fiction is fact. It’s also the people who know the difference between fact and fiction. Trump may be gone in four years, but those who voted for him won’t.
Note #2 We’re in a Civil War over information. The ventriloquists and their dummies are winning.
Note #3 The Los Angeles fires aren't just about celebrities who lost their homes—they will recover—it’s also about the people who won’t recover. It’s about Black Altadena. Will they rebuild their community or fall victim to land speculation? Do they have the means to rebuild, given the racial wealth gap, or will Black Altadena perish among the ashes of the archive?
Note # 4 If you only read or know of the “I Have a Dream” speech, you don't know Martin Luther King, Jr.
Note #5 The White Devil exploited Christianity to rationalize slavery. The White Devil exploited Christianity to rationalize Jim Crow. Now, the White Devil is exploiting Christianity to rationalize systemic racism. The White Devil is a liar.
Note #6 As corporations renounce DEI, I wonder, where are all the allies who purchased How to Be an Anti-Racist during the summer of 2020? Their silence speaks volumes.
Note #7 Though there are various expressions of Blackness, it is no longer Blackness when it defends white supremacy.
Note #8 A wise man once said, "The biggest threat to white supremacy is Black Intelligence." There's a reason why they didn't want our ancestors to read during slavery. There's a reason why they incinerated our schools during reconstruction. There's a reason why they didn't want us to desegregate their schools. There's a reason why education inequity persists despite Brown v. Board of Education. There's a reason why the school-to-prison pipeline exists. There's a reason why they are banning books. The reason has never changed.
Note #9 I know I'm in an unwelcoming neighborhood when I see one too many American flags.
Note #10 We should be uncomfortable with White music executives profiting from music that commodifies our trauma and self-destruction.
Note #11 Entertainers aren’t role models. They’re entertainers until proven otherwise. They don’t make them like Harry Belafonte anymore.
Note #12 When I walk at night and see a White woman coming before me, I cross the street not necessarily for her safety but mine.
Note #13 The Black Elite are failing us. Yeah, I said it.
Note #14 I was walking along a trail, and a White man jogged past me as we exited into a predominantly white neighborhood. The first house to our right is one of my favorite houses in the neighborhood. I try not to admire it too much. I don't want the owners to spot me and think I’m plotting a robbery.
However, the White man started walking up the driveway. I thought he was the owner, but unbeknownst to me, he wasn’t. He was just using the trashcan in front of the garage door. I assumed he was throwing away an energy bar wrapper. Maybe not.
Either way, I was fascinated by how free he was because it might be a matter of life and death if I did that. Oh, to be White and free.
Note #15 I find it ironic when I see Black Lives Matter flags in neighborhoods that are devoid of Black people. I bet these neighborhoods were redlined or had racially restrictive covenants back in the day.
Note #16 Gil Scott-Heron said, “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.” Well, the revolution will not be on X, Facebook, or Instagram either.
